Retia Fields

Reflections of Life
Retia “Faye” Harris-Fields

Retia Faye Harris-Fields was born on June 5th, 1954, in Wichita, Kansas, to Clara & Ardie B. Harris. Retia was the second of six daughters. Her schooling began at Yerger Elementary in Hope, Arkansas. Later, she moved to Texarkana and attended Booker T. Washington. She became a cheerleader and was part of the Class of 1972. During this time, she met and married Bennie E. Fields. To this union, two children were born: Charlotte and Ramon Fields. Later, Retia went on to have a set of twins, Tracy and Stacy Trotter.

Retia worked for many years as a housekeeper and spent most of her life as a homemaker. She played a significant role in raising many children, including her own children, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and grandchildren. In her younger years, Retia-Faye loved singing, dancing, and was a great cook.

She was a member of College Hill Baptist Church and later moved her membership to become a faithful member of Mt. Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth N. and Linda Reid. Sister Fields served on the Funeral Ministry and traveled faithfully with her pastor and church family. Sister Retia was devoted and loved her pastor, first lady, and the Mt. Grove family, attending joyfully until her health declined.

On Thursday, August 17, 2023 in Texarkana, Texas, she gained her angel wings at the age of 69. Retia-Faye was a loving mother, sister, and friend, and her memory will forever be with us.

Retia was preceded in death by her son, Stacy Trotter; mother, Clara M. Harris; father, Ardie B. Harris; two sisters, Sheila Harris and Sharon Gulley-Burris.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Charlotte Fields, Ramon Fields, and Tracy Farris, all of Texarkana, Arkansas; sisters, Ardelia Flenory and Stephanie Phillips, both of Hope, Arkansas, Donna Quarles of Texarkana, Texas, and Ardelia Harris, Ardilea Middleton, Ardie B. Harris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Sharon Owens of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren; stepchildren, James Trotter, Brenda Shepard, and Jamal Linden (Sam) of Texarkana, Arkansas, Angela Cheatham, Linda Ballance, Stacy Trotter, and Myrle Trotter of Hope, Arkansas; close lifelong friends, Sharon Dansby-Forte, Lanette Thompson, and Tawanda Wyatt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren, and friends.
